In 2025, LIHI's Tiny House Villages continued to be a highly effective shelter solution for people experiencing homelessness in King and Pierce Counties. LIHI operated 15 villages, with 13 in King County, including 10 in Seattle, two in Tukwila and one in Skyway. There are two villages in Pierce County, both in Tacoma. These villages sheltered 1,663 people, including families with children, singles and couples. 55% of people who exited a village secured housing. Of those who moved from a tiny house into housing, 98% retained their housing after one year. Case managers helped clients obtain IDs, find employment and housing and connect to other crucial services, including behavioral health and medical care. See chart below.
In 2026, LIHI has already opened two more villages: Olympic Hills Village in Seattle and Church by the Side of the Road Village in Tukwila. More villages and an RV safe lot, Glassyard Commons, are in the works!
Why are Tiny House Villages so popular with people living unsheltered?
When given a choice of shelter, people choose tiny houses because it's the next best thing to having your own place, and it's a great step toward getting housing. Tiny houses, at 8’x12’, may be small, but they supply a core human need that can be hard to come by on the streets or in many shelters: privacy. Each person gets a key to their own space. They can close out the world, catch a breath, sleep and be safe and warm. Their belongings are safe: a huge worry for people living on the street or in an unsanctioned encampment.
What our clients say
“My cat Gravy & I love our new home. Thank you so much for your support and services.” - LP
"My experience at Camp Second Chance has been lovely. The staff are loving, kind, and caring. They make sure you have everything you need and treat you with kindness. My favorite part of the village is my case manager. She has made things easier and smoother. She has made sure to keep me updated with all the new information and has stuck by my side. I enjoy being able to go outside and have other people to talk to: listening to advice from others and giving it as well. I love having a community to stick together with. Makes things easier when you have people to talk to. Camp Second Chance has given me the opportunity to grow and find myself again. Thank you for this opportunity of strength and guidance. - W.C.
