Urban Rest Stops: Over 20 years of Showers, Laundry, and Dignity
You wake up, take a shower, put on your work clothes and go to your job. You don't think twice about this routine, but your ability to go into work washed and wearing clean clothes is a basic reason that you continue to have that job.
Many employed people have been forced into homelessness due to a lack of affordable housing. They still need to be clean to get and stay employed. The Urban Rest Stops make this possible. With early hours, the Downtown and Ballard Urban Rest Stops make it possible for people to take a shower, launder their clothes, and then go to work.
Being clean is a basic human dignity
A hot shower and clean clothes are basic human needs. With those, you can face the day, interact with others without stigma, take care of business, and work on improving your life.

City of Seattle funding does not cover the full costs of operating the Urban Rest Stops. GiveBIG raises crucial funds that allow the Rest Stops to operate long hours so we can serve more people. Your donations are crucial. So please, GiveBIG. Any donation will help.
New Urban Rest Stop planned
LIHI's recently announced U District development at 45th and Roosevelt includes plans an Urban Rest Stop! This will replace the U District location that closed in 2020.

URS staff distribute soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, combs, shaving kits, feminine hygiene products, laundry detergent and other supplies at no charge to URS patrons. We also pass out warm hats, gloves and underwear.
