Historic Seattle recently announced its 2022 Preservation Award winners. The Frye Apartments received the Outstanding Stewardship Award, recognizing the major renovation of the building in 2020/21.

“Affordable housing is the key to a livable city, and many historic buildings across Seattle serve this purpose. Over three decades, the Low Income Housing Institute has invested significantly in the Frye Hotel, which opened in 1911 and now provides affordable homes to 234 families and individuals who might otherwise be priced out of our city or displaced. We are thrilled to recognize LIHI’s vital work with our Outstanding Stewardship Award.” – Kji Kelly, Executive Director, Historic Seattle

“LIHI is thrilled to be recognized for its stewardship of the Frye. It has been an honor to have given this gem a new lease on life with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems overhaul, as well as a new insulated roof and extensive exterior renovation. This beautiful structure has sheltered people in style for over 100 years, and we look forward to providing homes there for 100 more.” – Sharon Lee, Executive Director, LIHI

The move from Rosie’s Village to Kingfisher Village marks a significant step in expanding community-focused housing initiatives. It’s more than a relocation—it’s about building stability, dignity, and access to support services that can change lives. The announcement is filled with hope and progress, reflecting the value of thoughtful urban planning. As housing evolves, so do the standards we expect in comfort and livability. One key factor that enhances quality of life? The environment we return to every day. That’s where window wall plays a part, with modern window solutions that boost insulation, reduce noise, and let in natural light—creating peaceful spaces for residents in every community. Supporting strong housing means investing in every detail, including the windows that frame our…

I love such stories, thanks for sharing. I really appreciated that. But if you are in a hotel business, you may know that in summer many people prefer to come to the lakeside or seaside and not stay in a hotel, just because they feel a bit uncomfortable in the heat. My friends solved this problem with www.advancedmistingsystems.com and installing misting fans into their terraces. So what about you? Do you know about it?

Receiving the Frye Hotel Award for Historic Preservation inspires me as a hotel manager. To maintain such a reputation, it is important to consider every detail, including the hotel room signs on the website. They not only help with navigation, but also emphasize the style of the hotel. It is important to choose contrasting colors, appropriate materials and follow strict numbering rules. The right choice of signs enhances the guest experience and helps to maintain uniqueness.
