Belmont Village Groundbreaking!

LIHI is thrilled to announce that we have broken ground on the future Belmont Tiny House Village (formerly known as Cap Hill Village)! Located at 1737 Belmont Ave, this village will be in the heart of the vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Belmont village will feature 32 tiny houses, 24/7 staffing, a security pavilion, staff and case management offices, a community kitchen, plus hygiene and laundry facilities. Common facilities and six of the tiny houses will be accessible.
LIHI plans to have the Village open by the end of July 2026. Please keep an eye out for the announcement of the Grand Opening Ceremony! We can’t wait to provide vital shelter for our neighbors on Capitol Hill.
The village will have an onsite case manager supporting clients in obtaining housing, employment, income support, health care, getting IDs, applying for benefits, educational programs, and more. There will also be an onsite behavioral health specialist to provide services and refer clients to outpatient care, such as medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
Seattle City Council vote to expand tiny house villages to 150 and 250 people

We are celebrating a victory in the movement to end homelessness in Seattle with the City Council’s passage of CB 121195 on Tuesday!
This bill will allow tiny house villages and vehicular safe lots in the City of Seattle to serve up to 150 people, rather than being capped at the current 100 person limit. One site in the city will be allowed to shelter up to 250 people. This bill is in effect for an interim one year basis while a permanent legislation is being considered by the Council’s Land Use and Sustainability Committee.
The City Council worked diligently to pass this legislation quickly and thoughtfully. CB 121195 was sponsored by Councilmember Dionne Foster and is the third bill addressing transitional encampments included in Mayor Wilson’s Shelter Expansion Initiative to stand up 1,000 new shelter beds in 2026. The other bills that were voted into law last month included an administrative change to allow the city to lease land at market rate for transitional encampments as a way to expedite the creation of new micro-shelter programs, and the allocation of $4.9 million to be combined with other funds for new shelter beds.
Last year LIHI sheltered a total of 1,663 people in tiny houses, of which 1,145 lived in villages located in Seattle. We are excited to see emergency shelter expansion that gives people a warm and safe place out of the elements, with a door that locks, and services that are available in a supportive community setting.
Thank you to Mayor Wilson and the City Council for their dedication in increasing shelter for our unhoused neighbors. LIHI believes housing is a human right and Tuesday’s vote marked a step forward!
