Rent Assistance

With the final vote on the City of Seattle 2026 budget last week, this is a good time to thank the Seattle City Council for adding $10 million in funding for rental assistance. Rent assistance is crucial in helping low-income families and individuals who fall behind in paying rent because of a financial crisis. Now Seattleites can count on these dollars to protect them from falling into homelessness. This is an added support to affordable housing providers in Seattle as post pandemic rent loss is affecting their ability to adequately staff and pay operating costs.
Kudos to Council President Sara Nelson who took the lead in proposing $10 million for rent assistance. She was quickly joined by Councilmembers Bob Kettle, Rob Saka, and Mark Solomon as co-sponsors of the budget amendment. The final budget vote directs $6 million of the $10 million to tenants living in city-funded buildings.
Please write to the city council at: council@seattle.gov to thank the council for supporting $10 million in much needed rent assistance and thank Council President Nelson for her leadership.
More Good News on Tiny Houses

We thank King County Councilmember De’Sean Quinn for his leadership in including $650,000 for a new tiny house village in Tukwila at Church By the Side of the Road. These funds will go towards operating costs in 2026 as the village is currently under construction. Rev. Terrence Proctor and key supporters testified during the public hearings urging the Council to fund this new village that will shelter families with children and singles.
Thanks to King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda leadership the County also approved $300,000 divided over two years to cover the operating gaps on Riverton Park and Miracle Temple Villages, which are also located in Tukwila.
Please write to CM Mosqueda and CM Quinn to thank them for their leadership in tiny house villages at: Teresa.Mosqueda@kingcounty.gov, desean.quinn@kingcounty.gov
Please write to all county council members at: council@kingcounty.gov to thank them for expanding and supporting tiny house villages in King County in the 2026 budget.
