The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is a longstanding provider of affordable housing, Urban Rest Stop hygiene centers, and Tiny House Villages in the Puget Sound region. The Low Income Housing Institute has been developing affordable housing since 1990 and operating Urban Rest Stops since 2000. LIHI started the Tiny House Village program in 2015 to to alleviate homelessness across Puget Sound. LIHI currently oversees 3750+ affordable housing units and 17 tiny house villages. We believe innovative partnerships and creative solutions are needed to house and provide services to people living unsheltered in our community.

Since 2021, we are separate nonprofit organizations, but we collaborate closely.  Sound Foundations NW builds the majority of our tiny homes placed in villages at the Hope Factory, a warehouse in SoDo that we share. While SFNW builds the tiny houses,  we develop, staff, and operate the villages themselves.
