Maureen Howard Place was converted from a Candlewood Suites and opened as an enhanced shelter in 2024. The shelter consists of 77 units for individuals and couples experiencing homelessness in Pierce County. Maureen Howard Place features 24/7 staffing, comprehensive case management, behavioral health services, a community space, and kitchen and laundry facilities. Each unit includes a bed, living space, bathroom, microwave, and refrigerator. Clients with pets are welcomed. Maureen Howard Place is located in a connected area right off of I-5, and clients can conveniently access multiple transit options and healthcare, shopping, recreation, and employment opportunities.
